Smart Parms in Query Designer

Smart Parms may be added to a field from the Field List or Expression Builder panel.

Note: Prior to adding a Smart Parm to a field an alias name must be assigned to the field.

Add Smart Parms in the Field List Grid

  1. In the Field List panel, select the desired field row, right-click, then select Add Smart Parameter. A field parameter is added to the Parameters panel, with a default value of * and the Smart Parm (&SPARMxx) is inserted into the first Criteria field.

Add Smart Parms in Expression Builder

Note: This method must be used to add Smart Parms to the additional Criteria fields.

  1. If the parameter does not exist, create it (see Standard Parameters in Query Designer for more information).
  2. In the Field List grid, click the ellipses button, or double-click the Criteria field associated with the desired field. The Expression Builder panel appears.
  3. In the Expression Builder panel, from the Expression Elements section, click Parameters. The system displays a list of available parameters.
  4. From the parameter list, select the parameter to be used.
  5. Right-click the parameter, and, select the desired menu option. The Smart Parm appears in the Enter an Expression to use in the query section. No supporting characters (=, <, >, etc.) are required.
  6. Click OK. The Field List panel appears, with the Smart Parm inserted in the selected criteria field.

Delete Smart Parms

  1. In the Parameters panel, select a Smart Parm, right-click, then select Delete Parameter. The system removes the Smart Parm from the grid.
  2. In the Field List panel, click the appropriate Smart Parm criteria field value, then delete it from the grid cell.
  3. Repeat above the steps to delete additional Smart Parms.
