Parameters Panel

The Parameters panel is used to maintain parameters for the query. Test values may be assigned to the parameters, enabling users to test a query directly in Query Designer, prior to using it in Excel. Criteria assigned to the parameters also determines drill down subquery processing and the listing of valid values in Formula Builder.

  1. When a query is opened in Query Designer, the Parameters panel appears, displaying the parameter information of the selected query.
  2. Use the following table to enter data in the Parameters panel.
  3. Field

    Description

    ID

    The system-assigned parameter ID.

    Name

    The parameter description (generally the field name).

    Default Value

    The default test parameter value.

    Type

    The data type of the parameter value.

    Sub Query Column

    The column name to be used for matching to drill down panel column names, when determining whether the query is a valid subquery of the associated drill down.

    Select Query

    The query to be used for listing the valid values of the parameter in Formula Builder.

    Description

    Add Parameter

    Adds a new, or modifies an existing, parameter. To:

    • Add a new parameter: right-click the top-left portion of the parameter grid. A new parameter is added to the grid (see Standard Parameters in Query Designer for more information).
    • Modify a parameter: click the desired grid cell and make the modifications.

    Switch Parameter Order

    Switches the order of the selected parameters.

    Note: Changing the parameter order will break any existing worksheets using the query.

    Renumber All Parameters

    Completes any gaps in the selected parameter ID.

    Note: Changing the parameter order will break any existing worksheets using the query.

    Delete Parameter

    Deletes the selected parameter(s).

    Note: The Query Designer saves the resized Parameters panel to your personal settings file allowing you to retain the view every time you open a query.
